AUDITIONS FOR BASSES AND SOPRANOS: 2013
One of New Zealand’s most prominent and successful choirs, Musica Sacra, has places for BASSES and SOPRANOS. Now in its fifteenth year, the choir has established a strong reputation at the forefront of the choral scene in New Zealand, with many successes to its name including three CDs at number one in the classical charts, and a sold-out concert with world-renowned countertenor Andreas Scholl. The choir concentrates on the finest sacred music, but it is not a church choir. This year’s programme combines an inspiring concert series ranging from Byrd to Britten, from Purcell to Bax, with traditional monthly Choral Evensongs. Rehearsals are held on Thursday evenings in Ponsonby. Applicants should be experienced choral singers with good sight-reading skills and the ability to blend. Contact the conductor, Dr Indra Hughes, on md@musicasacra.org.nz, phone (09) 8118 693 or click here to submit a form. |
Musica Sacra is a chamber choir of around 35 voices founded and conducted by Indra Hughes and based in Auckland, New Zealand. The choir performs regularly in concerts, choral services, recordings and radio and television broadcasts. As the name implies, the choir concentrates on sacred music, but it is not a church choir.
Three of the choir's four CDs have been Number One in the New Zealand Classical Chart, including our most recent recording, "Christmas Spectacular", released in November 2011. In March 2011 Musica Sacra brought the celebrated German countertenor Andreas Scholl to Auckland to sing a programme of Bach and Handel with the choir in a highly successful, sold-out concert at Auckland Town Hall.
In 2006 the choir became the proud owners of the 1981 Mander chamber organ first used at the Royal Wedding in St Paul's Cathedral, London in 1981; the organ was inaugurated by John Scott in a special concert. Click on the 'Chamber Organ' menu button at the left to read more about this beautiful instrument.
We hope you will enjoy visiting this website, where you can find full information about the choir and its performances and repertoire, recordings and reviews. Our 2013 programme ranges from the sixteenth century to the present day in a variety of concerts, tours and Choral Evensongs, and includes a visit to sing with the newly-rebuilt organ at Napier Cathedral, and an exciting commemoration of Benjamin Britten's centenary: click Concerts and Services at the left to find out more.
We encourage you to join our Mailing List and we look forward to welcoming you at our performances.
